RS-485 signals into optical signals and vice versa. FO connection behaviour is passive at the bus, i.e. control of AUMA actuators is via bus is made in the same way as for a connection via copper cables (RS-485).

FO connection FO connection Basic information Hazardous voltage! Risk of electric shock. Failure to observe this warning can result in death or serious injury. The connection must be carried out exclusively by suitably qualified personnel. Prior to opening: Disconnect both system and device from the mains. Observe basic information contained in this chapter.

  • Page 8: Network Topologies

Network topologies Network topologies When connecting several terminal devices (actuators) in a network, the structure is called network topology. AUMA offers 3 different network topologies. Line topology Figure 8: Structure for line topology Max. FO cable range in km (observe technical data!)
  • Page 9: Star Topology

Information As all AUMA actuators are operated at the end of the FO cable section and controlled via channel 1, the parameter FO cable monitoring M0709 should be set to Off (final device).
  • Page 10: Loop Topology (Two-Fibre Loop)

Network topologies Loop topology (two-fibre loop) Figure 10: Structure for loop topology Max. FO cable range in km (observe technical data!) Channel 1 Channel 2 Integration of any Profibus DP device (option) FO coupler at DCS (mandatory) FO coupler for any Profibus field device Special features of loop topology The interruption of an FO cable between two actuators is recognised by the redundancy modules (via parameter FO cable monitoring = On (not final device)).
  • Page 11 Network topologies The minimum response time of all slaves (min T ) has to be set to a value of 11 bit times (basic setting) or more. In the event of continuous communication faults, this value has to be verified. The Profibus slot time (T ) must be set as to ensure that on request of the master, the response of the slaves arrives at the master within the slot time -...
