8-6. Adjusting Engine Speed

If engine does not start and stop properly, verify fuel solenoid is installed properly before adjusting engine speed (see Sections A and B following).
If engine does not stay at idle speed, verify the throttle solenoid is installed and adjusted properly before adjusting engine speed (see Section
C following).
If engine runs properly but the speeds are incorrect, do not adjust the solenoids. Adjust engine speed according to the instructions in Section
D.
A. Checking Fuel Solenoid Off Position

Stop engine.
If the engine is low on power or does not
start and stop when using the Engine Con-
trol switch, check the position of the fuel
solenoid in the Off and Run positions, and
check solenoid movement.

Stop screw is factory-set and should
not be adjusted.
Manually push throttle solenoid plunger in-
to the throttle solenoid body; hold plunger in
this position to ensure the fuel solenoid is in
the Off position.

Tools Needed:
3/8, 7/16 in.
10, 14 mm
Verify shutdown lever contacts the shut-
down stop screw. If shutdown lever does
not contact shutdown stop screw, verify the
fuel solenoid jam nut has at least 1/16 in.
(1.5 mm) clearance from solenoid body. If
the jam nut contacts the solenoid body,
carefully bend the vertical arm of the shut-
down lever away from the fuel solenoid until
there is at least 1/16 in. (1.5 mm) of clear-
ance between the jam nut and solenoid
body.
