Adjusting Engine Speed

If engine does not start and stop properly, verify fuel solenoid is installed properly before adjusting engine speed (see Sections A. and B.
following).
If engine does not stay at idle speed, verify the throttle solenoid is installed and adjusted properly before adjusting engine speed (see Sec-
tion C. following).
If engine runs properly but the speeds are incorrect, do not adjust the solenoids. Adjust engine speed according to the instructions in Sec-
tion D.
A. Checking Fuel Solenoid Off Position
Top View
Stop engine.
If the engine is low on power or does not
start and stop when using the Engine Con-
trol switch, check the position of the fuel sol-
enoid in the Off and Run positions, and
check solenoid movement.

4 Shutdown Lever

5 Shutdown Stop Screw
6 Fuel Solenoid Jam Nut
7 Shutdown Lever Vertical Arm
8 Minimum Space Of 1/16 in. (1.5 mm)
Stop screw is factory-set and should
not be adjusted.
Manually push throttle solenoid plunger into
the throttle solenoid body; hold plunger in
this position to ensure the fuel solenoid is in
the Off position.

Verify shutdown lever contacts the shutdown
stop screw. If shutdown lever does not con-
tact shutdown stop screw, verify the fuel sol-
enoid jam nut has at least 1/16 in. (1.5 mm)
clearance from solenoid body. If the jam nut
contacts the solenoid body, carefully bend
the vertical arm of the shutdown lever away
from the fuel solenoid until there is at least
1/16 in. (1.5 mm) of clearance between the
jam nut and solenoid body.
