Table 4: Troubleshooting: Software problems (Continued)
If the problem is:
Computer turns off or screen goes blank during
activity (for example, when using a joystick).
The game or program you were using does not
have sound after a Rapid Resume.
You need to reset your computer because it
does not respond to input from the keyboard
and you cannot reset because Rapid Resume is
enabled for the system unit's on/off button.
You added hardware or installed new software
and you want to cancel Rapid Resume and
restart the computer.
Problems using or connecting to networks after
turning on the computer to resume working
where you left off.
Note: If any of these problems continue after taking the actions listed, check your online Aptiva Helper or the Guide to HelpWare
and All the Extras folder for information on obtaining service.
Here's what to do:
1. Press the system unit's on/off button.
2. Increase the Automatic Power Off time.
3. Disable Rapid Resume and Standby during long periods of activity, such as
when using a joystick.
You were probably playing a game or using a program that communicates
directly to the sound card, instead of communicating through the driver to the
sound card. The game or program must communicate with the driver in order
for Rapid Resume to restore the game or program.
1. Restart the program.
2. Restart the computer.
1. Press the system unit's on/off button.
2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete when you see the Rapid Resume screen. There
may be a slight delay before the computer restarts.
Note: Any data that is not saved before you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete will be
lost.

1. Try reconnecting to your network drives.
2. If your computer has only DOS/Windows on it, make sure network drivers,
network start commands, and other network commands come before
"RESUME.EXE" in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
3. Log off the network before turning off the computer.
4. Use the Standby feature instead of the Rapid Resume feature to save
energy.
5. Some network cards are not designed to support Advanced Power
Management (APM). These cards will not work with Rapid Resume.
