Remote Switching

Application Interfaces

The Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system supports a series of
application interfaces which are used by external systems to access functions
of the communications system. Communication between the external system
and the Forum 5004/5008/5012 communications system is principally
transported via the LAN connection or using the IP network protocol. The
respective functions differ depending on the application interface. The
properties, function and requirements of the various application interfaces are
explained in the following sections.
Remote Switching
The function Remote switching allows to display the state of several
functions of the communications system Forum 5004/5008/5012 by
means of external devices (e. g. light switches, emergency lights). In addition,
these external devices can be controlled remotely by the communications
system, e. g. a door station.
Field bus
The external devices and their functions are controlled via the KNX field bus of
the building automation system. The communication system Forum 5004/
5008/5012 is connected with a remote switching IP router, serving as a
gateway to the field bus.
Bus participant
A bus participant refers to a device that participates in the field bus
communication.
External devices can be sensors (e. g. touch sensors) or actors (e. g.
switching actors, dimming actors). Some bus participants combine both
functions. Also, many bus devices offer separated channels. A quadruple
switching actor, for instance, features 4 channels, that can specifically be
activated from sensors on the field bus.
Example: A sensor registers the brightness in the stairwell and sends this
information on the field bus. The switching actors on the field bus receive
this information and perform the "Switch light" action.
