8 Bit Configurable GPIO Daughter Card (with
12 pin Phoenix Connector)

Overview

The HPE EL300 DIO daughter card adds 8 DIO ports for use. Each of the ports is isolated and thus
allowed to be designated as an input or output. These DIO ports are available through a Phoenix style 12
pin connector. The following illustration details how each port is connected:

Communication to these ports are accomplished through the I2C protocol. This is a serial protocol that is
popular and easy to use. It uses a single master that can have multiple slaves. When using this protocol,
the application has access to internal registers for interacting with the DIO. The command byte is
described below:

The input port register (command byte 0x00) reflects the incoming logic levels and only acts on the read
operation. The Output port register (command byte 0x01) shows the outgoing logic levels of the pins
