Control Power Transformer (CPTR) Option

The CPTR option provides a m eans to isolate the incom ing
line voltage required for the chiller control circuits and the
oil/refrigerant pum p from the com pressor incom ing line
voltage. The CPTR option provides a solution for
custom ers that cannot afford to lose com m unication w ith
the chiller or extended restart tim es due to lost incom ing
pow er.
The CPTR option w ill benefit:
UPS custom ers
Custom ers requiring fast restarts
Custom ers w ho need controls sourced from a clean
dedicated source
Custom ers w ith building autom ation/com m unication
system s w ho want to m aintain chiller status reporting
during pow er loss
Chillers w ith rem ote-m ounted m edium -voltage AFDs
or custom er-supplied starters
NOTICE:
CPTR Option Enclosure Panel Damage!
Failure to remove debris from inside the CPTR option
enclosure panel could result in an electrical short and
could cause serious component damage.
The standard unit-m ounted CPTR option shall have an
enclosure w ith a disconnect and w ill require custom er-
supplied pow er.
CVHH and CDHH chillers have a low-voltage CPTR option
and a m edium -voltage CPTR option.
The CPTR option involves a single phase 4kVA
transform er(s) and the oil pum p m otor circuit to be located
together in an enclosure that is unit-m ounted. There is
3-phase line pow er betw een 380–600 Vac feeding this
enclosure. Wherever the 4kVA transform er is located, the
oil pum p m otor circuit w ill be located along w ith it.
With the CPTR option, the control pow er transform er(s)
and oil pum p m otor circuit are NOT inside of the starter.
For the low-voltage CPTR option, the single phase 4kVA
transform er feeds the 120 V control pow er to all of the
controls. The three-phase line pow er feeds a m otor starter
and overload oil pum p m otor circuit w hich feeds the
three-phase oil pum p m otor.
For the m edium -voltage CPTR option, there are tw o single-
phase 4-kVA transform ers: one of the 4 kVA transform ers
feeds the 120 V control pow er to all of the controls. The
second transform er feeds a com bination m otor controller
oil pum p m otor circuit w hich then feeds a single-phase oil
pum p m otor.
N ot e: Refer to the unit nam eplate for m axim um
overcurrent protection and m inim um current
am pacity values for connecting to the CPTR option
enclosure.

Service personnel are required to ensure that the
incom ing pow er supply voltage provided by the custom er
to the CPTR option enclosure unit-m ounted panel is as per
subm ittal and nam eplate.
Power Factor Correction
Capacitors (Optional)
Pow er factor correction capacitors (PFCCs) are designed to
provide pow er factor correction for the com pressor m otor.
PFCCs are available as an option for unit-m ounted starters
and rem ote m ounted starters.
N ot es:
Verify PFCC voltage rating is greater than or equal to
the com pressor voltage rating stam ped on the unit
nam eplate.
Refer to the w iring diagram s that shipped w ith the unit
for specific PFCC w iring inform ation.
