4. Fully tilt the outboard motor up, and then
support it with the tilt stop lever 2 to
check the lock mechanism of the lever.

Checking the tilt pin

1. Check the tilt pin 1. Replace the tilt pin if
corroded, worn or bent.

2. Check the standard of the tilt pin 1 posi-
tion. Adjust the standard position by trim-
ming of the boat if necessary.

Lower unit

Checking the gear oil level

1. Fully tilt the outboard motor down.
2. Remove the check screw 1, and then
check the gear oil level in the lower case.

NOTE:
If the fluid is at the correct level, the fluid
should overflow out of the filler hole when the
check screw is removed.
3. If necessary, add sufficient gear oil of the
recommended type until it overflows out
of the check hole.
Recommended gear oil:
Hypoid gear oil
API: GL-4
SAE: 90
4. Install the new gasket 2, check screw 1,
and then tighten it to the specified torque.
Check screw 1:
9 N·m (0.9 kgf·m, 6.6 ft·lb)

Changing the gear oil

1. Tilt the outboard motor so that the gear
oil drain hole is at the lowest point possi-
ble.
2. Place a drain pan under the drain hole,
remove the drain screw 1, and then
remove the check screw 2 and let the oil
drain completely.
