ADJUSTMENTS
MARQUIS: ALIGNING THE FRONT ROLLS
Should the front rolls become out of true with the
bottom blade, adjust accordingly:
1.
Slacken the nut on the front roll carriage, left
hand side for the 61cm (24in) machine, right
hand side for 45cm and 51cm (18in and
20in)
machine.
2.
Place a straight edge between the front and
rear rolls and check the variation in the
measurement between the bottom blade
cutting edge and the straight edge at both
sides of the machine.
3.
Reset the front roll carriage so that the
measurement between the bottom blade
and the straight edge is the same on both
sides.
4.
Retighten the nut.
8.3 SUPER CERTES/SUPER BOWL: HEIGHT OF
CUT ADJUSTMENT (Fig. 8.3)
The cutting height is determined by the position of
the front roll in relation to the bottom blade; variation
of this setting is made by adjusting the front roll:
1.
Loosen the bolts (D) securing the front roll
brackets on both sides of the machine.
2.
Set the roll at the required height by either
turning the handscrew (A) clockwise to
raise the height of cut or anticlockwise to
lower the height of cut. Check that the
setting is the same at both sides of the
machine.
NOTE: The hexagon spacer and locking nut do not
need to be altered during this operation.
3.
To ensure that the height of cut is set
correctly, tilt the machine back and place
a straight edge across the front and rear
rolls - the gap between the bottom blade
cutting surface and the straight edge
should not be less that 5mm (3/16in) in
dry conditions and 6mm (¼in) in wet
conditions. Check the setting at both
ends of
the bottom blade. A height of
cut 3mm (1/8in) with special thin blade
can be obtained for fine finishing providing
that the area to be cut is of high standard.
NOTE: The front roll should never be set so that the
bottom blade is pressing on the turf; this will
damage the spiral cutters, bottom blade and the turf.

8.4 CYLINDER TO BOTTOM BLADE ADJUSTMENT

(Fig. 8.4)
To check that the cutting cylinder is set correctly to
the bottom blade: tilt the machine back, hold a thin
piece of paper between the edge of the blade and
spiral cutters and turn the cylinder manually.
The paper should be cut cleanly along the length of
the bottom blade, if not some adjustment is
necessary BUT DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN - the
cylinder must be able to turn freely.
Adjustment is made by loosening the locknut (A) and
turning the adjustment screws (B) clockwise to move
the cylinder towards the blade.
It is recommended that an eighth of a turn is made
alternately to each screw, checking frequently with
the paper until the correct setting is achieved.
WARNING
Turn petrol tap to the "OFF" position before
tilting the machine rearwards.
