MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE
Should the number of working hours that the
machine is in use during the indicated period exceed
the number quoted in brackets then use the
recommended 'working hour' guide as the
maintenance schedule.

10.1 ENGINE Daily (Every 8 working hours)

Cooling fins and Air intake
(Fig. 10.1a and Fig. 10.1b)
Check to ensure the air intake (A Fig. 10.1a) and
cooling fins (A Fig. 10.1b) are kept free of
grass clippings and debris. This is essential to
allow the free passage of air so that the cooling
system functions correctly. A blocked cooling
system will result in overheating and possible engine
damage.

10.2 Engine Weekly: (Every 50 working hours).

Air cleaner (dual element type)
(Fig. 10.3)
Remove the wing nut and the air cleaner cover.
remove the elements and sperate them. Carefully
check both elements for holes or tears and replace
if damaged.
Cleaning the Foam Element: Wash the element in a
solution of household detergent and warm water,
then rinse thoroughly, or wash in nonflammable or
high flash point solvent allow the element to dry
thoroughly. Soak the element in a clean engine oil
and squeeze out the excess oil. The engine will
smoke during initial start-up if too much oil is left in
the foam.
Cleaning the Paper Element: Tap the element lightly
several times on a hard surface to remove excess
dirt, or blow compressed air through the filter from
the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt off;
brushing will force dirt into the fibres. Replace the
paper element if it is excessively dirty.
Reassemble the parts in their original positions.
IMPORTANT: Dirt wears engines. Incorrect
maintenance of the air cleaner will cause
premature wear. Service more frequently if the
air cleaner is very dirty or if operating in dusty
conditions.
