4-2. MECHANISM OF CCD CHARGE TRANSFER

The all pixel simultaneous readout CCD used in this unit has the vertical CCD,
horizontal CCD configured as shown below.
1. Vertical CCD : Using a 3-layered electrode 3-phase drive CCD structure, the
unit reads out all pixels independently and transfer them in a
one-field period. (Two vertical transfers are performed in one
horizontal blanking period.)
The CCD used in this unit reads out all pixels independently in a one-field
period, so that it does not perform pixel mixing. For this reason, the CCD uses a
three-layered electrode three-phase drive, and not a conventional two-layered
electrode four-phase drive.
Because the electrode is three-layered, load is higher than with the conventional
structure, requiring a V driver with a greater drive capacity.
