5.9.5.2 Replacing the fuel filter of the fuel/water
separator
This machine is fitted with an electric fuel pump
that primes the fuel system as soon as the power
switch is turned on. A buzzing can be heard from
the pump when it is on. When changing filters,
this pump will prime the system with fuel.
1. Shut down the compressor.
2. Open the compressor canopy.
3. Remove the old fuel filter
4. Drain valve
5. Drain
NOTE
Subject to EAR, ECCN EAR99 and related export control restrictions.
1. Grasp the top sides of the colored fuel
connectors and pull upward to unlatch
them.
2. Push downward on the thumb tab on the
top of the fuel connector while gently
twisting and pulling the connector away
from the filter body.
3. Squeeze the two black tabs on the upper
sides of the filter and pull outward. This
rotates the top of the filter outward which
releases the filter.
4. Pull the entire unit upward and out to
remove it from its bracket.
4. Install the new fuel filter.
1. Install the filter by reversing steps 3.1 to
3.4 above.
2. Make sure to secure the colored fuel
connectors by snapping down their top
locking mechanisms.
5. Power up the controller so that the electric
priming pump will fill the new filter.
• Confirm the fuel fill by observing the trans-
parent bowl on the bottom of the filter.
6. Close the canopy.

Setting speed and pressure controls
on portable compressors equipped
with poppet valves
Refer to Figure 5-5. Before adjusting the compressor's
control system, the rated full-load pressure and the high/
low rpm settings must be determined. This information is
provided in Section 3: Specifications or can be obtained
by contacting a Sullair representative.
The following procedure applies to a compressor with
full-load pressure rating of 100 psig (6.9 bar).
1. Start the compressor and allow the engine to
warm-up to its normal operating temperature
with the service valve closed.
2. With the service valve closed, set the engine
low speed (idle) to its specified setting with the
idle stop screw on the engine injector pump.
Operating the compressor below its minimum
specified idle speed will damage the compres-
sor. Operating the compressor in this condition
will cause coupling and/or compressor failure.
