Environmental note
Daimler's declared policy is one of inte-
grated environmental protection.
The objectives are for the natural resour-
ces which form the basis of our existence
on this planet to be used sparingly and in a
manner which takes the requirements of
both nature and humanity into account.
You too can help to protect the environ-
ment by operating your vehicle in an envi-
ronmentally responsible manner.
Fuel consumption and the rate of engine,
transmission, brake and tyre wear depend
on the following factors:
operating conditions of your vehicle

your personal driving style
R
You can influence both factors.
You should bear the following in mind:
Operating conditions
avoid short trips as these increase fuel
R
consumption.
make sure that the tyre pressures are
R
always correct.
do not carry any unnecessary weight.
R
keep an eye on the vehicle's fuel con-
R
sumption.
remove rear racks once you no longer
R
need them.
a regularly serviced vehicle will con-
R
tribute to environmental protection. You
should therefore adhere to the service
intervals.
always have maintenance work carried
R
out at a qualified specialist workshop,
e.g. a smart Centre.
Personal driving style
do not depress the accelerator pedal
R
when starting the engine.
do not warm up the engine with the vehi-
R
cle stationary.
drive carefully and maintain a safe dis-
R
tance from the vehicle in front.
avoid frequent, sudden acceleration.
R
change gear in good time, if possible in
R
accordance with the gearshift recom-
mendations in the multifunction dis-
play.
shift up to the next gear as early as pos-
R
sible.
switch off the engine in stationary traf-
R
fic.

Returning an end-of-life vehicle

EU countries only:
smart will take back your end-of-life vehicle
for environment-friendly disposal in
accordance with the European Union (EU)
End-Of-Life Vehicles Directive.
This makes an important contribution to
closing the recycling circle and conserving
resources. A network of vehicle take-back
points and dismantlers has been established
for you to return your vehicle. Returning
vehicles to these facilities is free of charge.

and disposal of end-of-life vehicles, and the
take-back conditions, please visit the
national smart website for your country.
