Chapter 7: Battery and Starter System Test—Truck
Before startng the test, nspect the alternator drve belt. A belt that s glazed or worn, or lacks the proper
tenson, wll prevent the engne from achevng the rpm levels needed for the test.
The System Test first evaluates the battery pack (with up to 6 batteries), then the starter and charging
systems. The Chargng System Test has the opton of usng the amp clamp to measure chargng current.

Battery Pack Test

The test s desgned to gve you a quck approxmaton of the pack's state of health and ts capablty to
delver current. If the analyzer determnes that the pack has a low state of charge, t wll provde the opton
of testng the batteres ndvdually or skppng to the System Test.

In the Man Menu, select the System Test con.

Select AUTO/VAN.

Enter the number of batteres n the pack (up to sx).

Press the NEXT soft key to contnue.
The BACK soft key returns you to the Man Menu at the start of the test and to the prevous screen
as you progress.

Follow steps 3 to 8 n the Battery Test secton startng on page 24.
5.
When prompted, enter the vehcle VIN.
The EXP evaluates the battery and dsplays the results (page 34).
If the decson s CHECK BATTERY PACK or you selected more than one battery to test,
the EXP provdes the opton of testng each battery n the pack (BREAK PACK DOWN) or
contnung wth the Starter Test.
