Yellow indicator lights
Vellow symbols indicate a priority 2 maLfunc-
tion - Warning!
Overview
Tips
Malfunctions or faults will be identified ei-
ther with a red symbol (priority 1 - Dan-
ger!) or with a yellow symbol (priority 2-
Warning).

WARNING
_ Failure to heed warning lights and other
important vehicle information may result
in serious personal injury or vehicle dam-
age.
- Whenever stalled or stopped for repair,
move the vehicle a safe distance off the
road, stop the engine, and turn on the
emergency flasher

- The engine compartment of any motor
vehicle is a potentially hazardous area.
Before you check anything in the engine
compartment, stop the engine and let it
cool down. Always exercise extreme cau-
tion when working under the hood

Engine compartment
Some ind icator lig hts tu rn on briefly to check
the function of that system when you switch
the ignition on. These systems are marked
with an ./ in the following tables. If one of
these indicator lights does not turn on, there
is a malfunction in that system.
Red indicator lights
Red symbols indicate a priority malfunction _

there is more than one malfunction, the indi-
cator lights will turn on one after the other for
approximately two seconds each.
Some indicators lights in the display can turn
on in several colors.
- Pull off the road.
- Stop the vehicle.
- Turn off the engine.

Messages may appear with some indicator
lights. The messages turn off after a short
time. To display a message again, press the

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the in-
strument cluster, dEF will appear in the trip
odometer and will stay on. Contact your au-
thorized Audi dealer to have the problem cor-
rected.
When the ignition is switched on, the data on
the ig nition key are scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used, SAFE is dis-
played continuously in the odometer display
field. The vehicle cannot be operated

Tips
- The digitaL clock and the odometer are
turned on for about 30 seconds when
the driver's door is opened.
- When the ignition

date display can be switched on for
about 30 seconds by pressing the Set!

The indicator lights in the instrument cluster
blink or turn on. They indicate functions or
malfunctions ~ /1:;..
set the odometer back to zero. Vou can use
this odometer when you want to keep track of
how many miles (kilometers) you have driven
for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi-
cates 1/10 of a miLe (100 meters). Vou can set
the trip odometer back to zero by pressing the
reset button

The upper odometer shows the total number
of miles (kilometers) driven since you last re-

have approximately 1.9 gallons (7 litres) of
fuelleft in the tank. Time to refuel!
The total tank ca pacity of your vehicle is listed
in ~page 242.

Note
Never run the tank completely dry! An ir-
regular supply offuel can cause engine
misfiring and fuel could enter into the ex-
haust system. The cataLytic converter
couLd then overheat and be damaged.
The fuel gauge works only when the ignition is
on.
