Note
Only after the vehicle has come to com-
plete stop, should you firmly set the park-
ing brake and either move the gearshift
lever into lst. gear (manual transmission)
or move the selector lever into "P" (Auto-
matie transmission).
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling
away, there are a few things you should do.
Whe'n you park your vehicle, do the following:

Stop the vehicle using the brake pedalo
~
Set the parking brake firmly.
~
Switch off the engine.
~
Move the selector lever into the P position
(automatic transmission) or move the gear-
shift lever into lst. gear (manual transmis-
sion) .
~
Remove the ignition key from the ignition
lock.
What else you should do when parking
your vehicle on an incline or decline
Turn the steering wheel

that if the vehicle
should start to roll, it will roll into the curb.
If you are parking on a decline (the front of
your vehicle facing downhill), turn the front
wheels to the right

that they point toward
the curb.
Ifyou are parking on an incline (the font of
your vehicle facing uphill), turn the front
wheels to the left

that they point away
from the curb.

WARNING
This is how you can reduce the risk of in-
jury when leaving your vehicle.
- Never park the vehicle where it can come
in contact with dry grass, spilled fuel or
any other flammable materials_
- Never allow anyone - especially small
children - ta remain in the vehicle when
it is locked. Locked doors make it more
difficult for rescuers to access the pas-
senger compartment in the Event of an
emergency. Danger to life!
- Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle. Children could release the park-
ing brake or move the gearshift lever out
of gear. The vehicle could start to roll
away and cause an accident.
- No matter what the season is, the tem-
perature in a parked vehicle can reach
dangerous levels.
Starting on hiLLs
Applies to vehicles: with hill hold assist
Hill hold assist makes it easier to start on
hills.
The system is activated when the brake pedal
is depressed for a few seconds.
After releasing the brake pedal, the brake
power is held for a brief moment to prevent
the vehicle from rolling back when starting. At
this time, you can easily begin to move your
vehicle.

WARNING
- If you did not begin moving immediately
after releasing
th~brake
pedal, under
certain circumstances, the vehicle would
begin to roll backward. Depress the
brake pedal immediately or engage the
hand brake.

- Should the engine stall.. depress the
brake pedal immediately or engage the
hand brake.
- In order to prevent the vehicle from roll-
ing back unintentionally when starting in
stop-a nd-go traffic, keep the brake pedal
depressed for a few seconds before driv-
ing off.

Tips
You can find out if you r vehicle is equipped
with "Hill hold assist" at an authorized Au-
di dealership.

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 20 mph
(30 km/h).

The display may vary depend ing on the type of
display in your vehicle. The indicator light
(US model)

also light up in the instrument cluster.

WARNING
- Always pay attention to traffic Even when
the cruise control is switched on. You are
always responsible for your speed and
the distance between your vehicle and
other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, the cruise control
should not be used in the city, in stop-
and-go traffic, on twisting roads and
when road conditions are poor (such as
On the road
ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro-
planing) - risk of accident.
- Turn off the cruise control temporarily
when entering turn Lanes, highway exit
Lanes or in construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal causes
the cruise control not to brake. This is
because the cruise control is overridden
by the driver's acceleration.

Tips
- Vehicles with manual transmission: You
can attain the set speed only if the cur-
rently engaged gear allows it and the en-
gine is not stressed. Shifting to a higher
or lower gear promptly will allow the en-
gine to run smoothly.
- The cruise control cannot maintain a
constant speed when driving downhillo
The vehicle will accelerate under its own
weight. Downshift to a lower gear or use
the brakes to slow down.
Changing speed

Release the lever to save that speed.
Change speed in increments of 1 mph (1 km/
h) by lightly pressing the lever. Ifyou keep the
lever pressed

you will alter your speed
in S mph (10 km/hl increments.
You can also press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e.g. ifyou want to

someone. The speed you saved earlier
will resume as soon as you release the acceler-
ator pedalo
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
5 mph (10 km/hl for longer than 5 minutes,
the cruise control will turn off temporarily.
The symbol will go out but the saved speed
will be retained.
