start
a
car with
a "run-down"
battery,
hook thejumper cables

the
booster

tery first;
. .
Be
sure
to
connect the positive
(+) terminals of the batteries through
34
one cable (usually
red) and
the negative
termina
ls

the other. Any
other
procedure will
damage
the
charging
sys-
tem.
BATTERY CARE
About
once a
month (more
often
during
hot
dry
weather)
have
the fluid
level
in
battery cells checked. The level should
be
at the ring
in
the
bottom
of the filler
well.
One
cell
has
a
special
vent cap. The
center
of
the cap will glow
if the electro-
lyte level
is
low. Wipe the top
of the cap
clean before checking
for
glow
effect. If
this cap glows
check
the electrolyte
level
in
all cells.
Ordinary
tap
water
can
be
used
except
in areas where the water
is
known
to
be
hard or to
h
ave a
high mineral or alkali
content-use distilled water in these
areas.
In
cold
weather
have
the
battery
state of
charge
checked every
few weeks.
If
low,
a light charge will prevent hard
starting.
