Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) INTRODUCTION Document Goal This document guides users in setting up and configuring their Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Cognitive Radio System BASE and CLIENT (International configuration) units. The steps (and “required items”) described below are intended for two purposes: 1.
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Important Notes ACRS Update Order When updating units, it is imperative that CLIENTs are updated before BASE units. Antenna Orientation It is recommended to orient antenna ‘fins’ vertically. CLIENT antennas should point directly toward the BASE, and the BASE should point into the center of the CLIENTs.
Before getting started, the first thing you should do is inventory the packages you receive. Each ACRS box should contain the following items: 1. ACRS 2.0 unit (“BASE” or “CLIENT” per label on rear) 2. ACRS-to-antenna cable 3. Ethernet cable weather-resistant boot 4.

Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) INSTALLATION Radio Mounting Hardware The BASE and CLIENT units each come with the following mounting hardware: (1) right-angle mounting plate (2) U-bolts (1) bag plate-to-antenna hardware o (6) 14mm hex nuts...
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Ethernet cable The Ethernet cable is attached to the back of the radio unit with a weather-resistant boot, as shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3, below. Figure 2: ACRS bottom (Ethernet RJ45 plug on the right) Figure 3: Ethernet weather-resistant boot The Ethernet weather-resistant boot comes in two pieces, as shown in Figure 4—a hard shell (on the...
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Insert the Ethernet cable first through the weather-resistant boot hard shell and then through the soft shell, as shown in Figure 5: Ethernet cable with weather-resistant boot assembly Next, push the hard shell over the soft shell. This forms the weather seal around the cable.
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Insert the Ethernet connector into the ACRS RJ-45 jack. Figure 8: Ethernet connector in place Finally, slide the weather boot into place; ensure that the ridged portion of the soft shell is secured within the ridged metal edges of the ACRS enclosure.
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Antenna Orientation Basic Antennas should be oriented as shown below: BASE Figure 10: Basic Antenna Orientation & Direction Fins should be vertically oriented Antennas should point directly at each other CLIENT Indoor Testing When setting up antennas for indoor test, point the antennas in opposite directions (the reverse of what’s shown above).
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Collocation When collocating antennas (placing them in the same proximity, i.e. on the same pole), use the following distance guidelines: DIRECTION STACKING SAME OPPOSITE 48” VERTICAL 30” 48” HORIZONTAL 24” Figure 12: Antenna Collocation Separation Distances Note: Collocated antennas should be operated with >1 channel separation when possible.
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Antenna Mounting Hardware The antenna mounting hardware allows antennas to be mounted to either vertical or horizontal poles, in all cases the antenna fins should maintain vertical orientation. The Fracarro LP45F antenna comes with the following kind of mounting hardware:...
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Vertical Pole The most common antenna mounting will be on vertical poles. (See Figure 12) For antennas to be mounted on a vertical pole, insert the bolt heads into the antenna base ‘bottom’ receptacles, as shown below.
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Horizontal Pole Antennas may also be mounted on horizontal cross-pieces. (See Figure 12) To mount the antenna to a horizontal pole, insert the bolts through the antenna base side holes, as shown below left. Make sure the bolts are fully seated (as shown for the right bolt in the left figure).
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Antenna Cable Before securing the cable to the ACRS unit, the antenna cable weather boot must be slipped over the SMA connector end, as shown below (left), and gently shoved through, as shown below (right).
Adaptrum ACRS2.0 Quick Start Guide (International) Disabling WiFi It is recommended to disable your wifi, as it may interfere with the Adaptrum setup process. Because many laptops may be set to auto-re-enable wifi, it may be insufficient to simply “Disconnect,” using the...
