The SpeedTouch™610 is an important part of your local network. In a most likely
scenario, the SpeedTouch™610 may act, not only as the LAN's DSL gateway, but also as
the LAN's DHCP server, DNS server, SIP multimedia PBX, IP router and secure VPN
gateway.
Being so important, it is imperative that the SpeedTouch™610 is protected, not only
from the outside, but also from the inside to avoid unintended changes to its configura-
tion.
By securing the SpeedTouch™610 via a system password you are able to ensure that
access to the SpeedTouch™610 will be allowed only for people knowing the system
password.
Never use an obvious system password to protect your SpeedTouch™610, such as your
name, date of birth or phone number.
In case you configured a system password for the SpeedTouch™610, all access methods
are secured (from any of the SpeedTouch™ interfaces):
• SpeedTouch™ Setup wizard application
•
SpeedTouch™NAPT Manager application
• Dr SpeedTouch™ application
•
HTTP web interface access
• CLI Telnet access
•
CLI serial access
• FTP access.
The system password does not affect the forwarding and/or routing func-

tionality of the SpeedTouch™610 in any way.
In case you forgot the system password, you will no longer be able to access the Speed-
Touch™610 web interface, CLI or via FTP in any way, nor be able to run the Speed-
Touch™ Setup wizard for re-configuration.
Therefore, it is advised to write down your system password and to keep it on a safe
place.
If you have lost your system password the only method to unlock the SpeedTouch™610
is by resetting it to its factory default settings. See
on page 61 for more information).
