4.8 3‐Axis accelerometer
Applicable models:
The internal 3‐axis accelerometer available in all models except the base MTX‐3G‐JAVA and
RS485/ULP models is based on a LIS331DLM chip. It has a dynamically user selectable full‐scale
measure range of ±2g/±4g/±8g and it is capable of measuring accelerations with output data rates
from 0.5Hz to 400Hz with a resolution of 8 bits.
Also, the device may be configured to generate an interrupt signal by inertial wake‐up/free‐fall
events as well as by the position of the device itself. Thresholds and timing of interrupt generators
are programmable by the user on the fly. This feature could be used by the MTX‐3G‐JAVA modem
family to wake‐up the GSM engine module from the sleep mode.
The LIS331DLM is connected to the EHS6 module via the internal I2C bus, at a 7‐bit address 0x09
hexadecimal. You can configure and use it by issuing I2C related AT commands or via the I2C Java
class.
Please refer to the device datasheet or the Java code examples available at www.mtxm2m.com in
the Downloads section, in order to learn how to use I/Os.
In the following picture you can see how the accelerometer axes are located within the modem box.
