Troubleshooting Guide

If the system does not work properly, please refer to this table for
troubleshooting hints. If there is no improvement in the condition,
even after troubleshooting, or symptoms other than those listed
exist, please disconnect your unit from the wall outlet and contact
your ONKYO authorized service station.
• Please make sure that the system has been connected properly,
otherwise it cannot operate correctly.
• This stereo system contains a sensitive microcomputer, which
under certain circumstances might fail to operate due to exces-
sive noise interference. In such an event, disconnect the AC
power from your electrical outlet and replace it 5 seconds later.
Receiver related problems
• Power does not come on.
Cause: Power cord plug is not properly connected to AC outlet.
Remedy: Insert plug firmly. (Refer to page 9.)
• When receiving FM stereo broadcasts, more static back-
ground noise is received compared to mono broadcasts.
Cause: FM stereo waves generate some noise due to the differ-
ent modulation compared to mono waves.
Remedy: Reduce the high sound (treble) using the TONE
button. (Refer to page 14.)
• The ® ® ® ® ® •√ √ √ √ √ and STEREO indicators light up, but the sound is
distorted and stereo separation is bad.
Cause: The station is too strong.
Remedy: Change to an FM indoor antenna.
Cause: There are multiple reflection of the radio waves because
of tall buildings or mountains.
Remedy: Use an antenna which has better directivity and
select a point where there is less distortion.
• The ® ® ® ® ® •√ √ √ √ √ and STEREO indicators flicker, and a hissing is
heard on FM.
Cause: The station is too weak.
Remedy: Install an outdoor FM antenna.
Cause: Stereo FM broadcasts cover only about half the distance
of an ordinary broadcast.
Remedy: Change the position or direction of the outdoor
antenna.
• The RDS function does not work.
Cause: An RDS station is not being received.
Remedy: Receive an RDS station.
Cause: The reception station signal is too weak.
Remedy: Install an outdoor FM antenna.
Remedy: Change the position or direction of the outdoor
antenna.
Cause: There is too much interference.
Remedy: Move the antenna as far away as possible from
nearby fluorescent lamps.
Remedy: Install an outdoor FM antenna as far away as
possible from the road.
• The timer cannot be set.
Cause: The time has not been set.
Remedy: Set the time. (Refer to page 12.)

• When recording, no sound can be heard.
Cause: The muting function is on.
Remedy: Cancel muting by pressing the MUTING button
on the remote control.
• "0:00" on the time display is flashing.
Cause: It flashes if there has been a power interruption.
Remedy: Set the time again. (Refer to page 12.)
• The sleep function doesn't work.
Cause: The time has not been set.
Remedy: Set the time. (Refer to page 12.)
• Sound is not heard from by both the right and left speakers.
Cause: The speaker cables are not connected.
Remedy: Check the connections. (Refer to page 9.)
Cause: The volume is turned down to the minimum.
Remedy: Turn the volume up to an adequate level.
Cause: The muting function is on.
Remedy: Cancel muting by pressing the MUTING button
on the remote control. (Refer to page 13.)
• Sound from one of the speakers is low or nonexistent.
Cause: The speaker cables are not connected.
Remedy: Check the connections. (Refer to page 9.)
Cause: The balance is turned to one side.
Remedy: Adjust the balance using the TONE button. (Re-
fer to page 14.)
CD-related problems
• A disc is loaded in the disc tray, but play will not begin.
Cause: The disc is in the disc tray upside down.
Remedy: Load the disc with the label side up.
Cause: The disc is dirty.
Remedy: Clean the disc. (Refer to page 29.)
Cause: Moisture has accumulated inside this unit.
Remedy: Remove the disc from the disc tray, place this unit
in a warm place and leave the power on for about
one hour. (Refer to page 4.)
• The disc is skipping
Cause: The disc is dirty.
Remedy: Clean the disc. (Refer to page 29.)
Cause: The disc is scratched.
Remedy: Replace the disc.
Cause: This unit has been bumped.
Remedy: Place this unit in a more stable location.
• Search time (when moving to a specific track) is extremely
long.
Cause: The disc is dirty.
Remedy: Clean the disc. (Refer to page 29.)
Cause: The disc is scratched.
Remedy: Replace the disc.
While operating the system, it might interfere with the TV screen.
Move the TV further away from the unit or turn the TV power off
to fully enjoy top quality sound.
