TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause
Battery discharged.
Fuse burnt out.
Fuel valve CLOSED or OFF.
(If equipped)
Choke OPEN.
Engine switch OFF.
Engine oil level low (Oil Alert
stops engine).
Out of fuel.
Stale fuel; engine stored
without treating or draining
gasoline, or refueled with stale
gasoline.
Spark plugs faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plugs wet with fuel
(flooded engine).
Fuel filter restricted, carburetor
malfunction, ignition
malfunction, valves stuck, etc.
ENGINE LACKS POWER

Correction
Recharge battery.

FUSE REPLACEMENT
The electric starter relay circuit and battery charging circuit are
protected by a 30-ampere fuse. If the fuse burns out, the electric
starter will not operate.
1. Disconnect the wire connector, and remove the wire harnesses
from the wire harness band.

2. Remove the 6×8 mm special screw from the rear cover of the
engine switch box, and remove the rear cover.
3. Remove the fuse cover, and inspect the fuse.
30 A FUSE
If the fuse is burnt out, remove the fuse cover, then pull out and
discard the burnt-out fuse. Install a new 30-ampere fuse, and
reinstall the fuse cover.
Never use a fuse with a rating greater than 30 amperes. Serious
damage to the electrical system or a fire could result.
4. Reinstall the rear cover. Install the 6×8 mm special screw and
tighten it securely.
Frequent fuse failure usually indicates a short circuit or an overload
in the electrical system. If the fuse burns out frequently, take the
engine to a Honda servicing dealer for repair.
