5.6. Remove the steering wheel nut (27) and the steering wheel (25) from the steering column (20)
(Figure 7-3, Page 7-3).

STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION
NOTE: To minimize corrosion and to make future removal of the steering wheel easier, apply a small
amount of oil or anti-seize compound to steering shaft splines and taper before installing the steer-
ing wheel.
1. Install the steering wheel (25) on the splines of the steering shaft (19). Be sure to align the match marks
placed on the wheel and steering column in step 3 above (Figure 7-3, Page 7-3).
2. Install the steering wheel nut (27) and tighten to 13 ft-lb (17.6 N·m).
3. Install the scorecard plate (28) and plate mounting screws (30) (Figure 7-3, Page 7-3). Tighten screws
to 16 in-lb (1.8 N·m).

STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed. See WARNING "To avoid unintentionally starting..." in
General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-2.
2. Remove the steering wheel as previously instructed.
3. Remove the front body as instructed in Section 4 – Body and Trim.
