SHOCK ABSORBERS

See General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-1.

SHOCK ABSORBER REMOVAL AND INSPECTION

1. Check shock absorbers (7) for damage or fluid leakage at the point where the shaft enters the shock
absorber body. Replace damaged or leaking shock absorbers (Figure 9-1, Page 9-2).
2. To remove a shock absorber, remove the nut (5), cup washer (9) and rubber bushing (10) from the stem
at the top of the shock absorber.
3. Remove the nut (5), cup washer (9), and rubber bushing (10) from lower mounting stem.
4. Compress the shock absorber to remove it.

SHOCK ABSORBER INSTALLATION

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
2. On the upper and lower shock absorber mounting stems, tighten the nuts until the rubber bushing
expands to the size of the cup washer.
LEAF SPRINGS
See General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-1.
LEAF SPRING REMOVAL
1. Loosen, but do not remove, lug nuts on tire and wheel assembly on the side from which the spring is to
be removed. Place chocks at the front wheels and lift the rear of the vehicle with a chain hoist or floor jack.
Position jack stands under the frame crossmember between the spring mount and the side stringer, just
forward of each rear wheel. Lower the vehicle to let the jack stands support the vehicle (Figure 9-2,
Page 9-3). See following WARNING.
