5. Connect the PTT motor leads to the bat-
tery terminals to fully retract the tilt ram.

6. Reverse the PTT motor leads between
the battery terminals to fully extend the
tilt ram.

NOTE:
• Repeat steps 5–6 to fully extend and retract
the tilt ram 4 to 5 times.
• If the tilt ram does not move up and down
easily, push and pull on the ram to assist
the operation.
7. Fully extend the tilt ram.
8. Remove the reservoir cap, and then
check the fluid level in the reservoir.
WARNING
Make sure that the tilt ram is fully
extended when removing the reservoir
cap, otherwise fluid can spurt out from
the unit due to internal pressure.
NOTE:
• If the fluid is at the correct level, a small
amount of fluid should overflow out of the
filler hole when the cap is removed.
• If the fluid is below the correct level, add the
recommended PTT fluid.
Recommended PTT fluid:
ATF Dexron II
9. Install a new O-ring and the reservoir
cap, and then tighten the cap to the spec-
ified torque.
NOTE:
If the fluid is below the correct level in step 8,
repeat steps 5–9 until the fluid remains at the
correct level.
Reservoir cap:
7 N·m (0.7 kgf·m, 5.2 ft·lb)

Bleeding the PTT unit (installed)

1. Push the PTT switch to tilt the outboard
motor to the fully up and down positions
4 to 5 times.
