8. Slowly turn the drive shaft clockwise and
counterclockwise and measure the back-
lash between where the drive shaft stops
in each direction.
NOTE:
• Push the drive shaft downward, and then
turn it.
• Measure the backlash at 4 points to find the
average.
Forward gear backlash:
0.18–0.57 mm (0.0071–0.0224 in)
9. Adjust the current forward gear shim
thickness if the forward gear backlash is
out of specification.

10. Remove the special service tools from
the propeller shaft.
11. Install the propeller, spacer, bushing, and
nut, without installing the spacer 8.
12. Tighten the propeller nut to the specified
torque.
