Battery
on
vehicle
which
has
broken
down
Emergency battery
Metal
earth
point on
the vehicle
which
has broken down.
Check
that
the voltage
of
the emergency
battery is
correct
(12
volts). If
the battery
of another
vehicle is
used,
switch
off the engine
of that
vehicle. The two vehicles
must not
be
in
direct
contact.
Connect
the cables as per the diagram
in
the
order
shown.
Check
the clips are correctly
closed
(risk
of
sparks).
Start
the
supplying vehicle.
Let the
engine
run
for
approximately
one minute at a
slightly
accelerated
rate. Start the receiving vehicle.

Never
allow
a naked
flame
or
spark
near the battery as
it gives off explosive gas
(hydrogen).
The battery contains dilute sulphuric
acid which
is
corrosive. Wllen
han-
dling it,
protect
the eyes
and
the
face.
If
tbe
acid
comes
into contact with
the
skin, rinse immediately
with abundant
fresh
water.
Advice
on
the use
of
the clips
Never touch
the clips during the
oper-
ation.
Do not lean over
the batteries.
Disconnect
the cables
in
the opposite
order
of connecting
them and prevent
them
touching.
Before carrying
out
any
work
involving
disconnection
of
the
battery:
lower
the windows to
permit
opening
and closing of
the
doors.
