CHECKING THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER

1. Check:
S timing chain tensioner
Cracks/damage ! Replace.
2. Check:
S one-way cam operation
Rough movement ! Replace the timing
chain tensioner housing.
3. Check:
S cap bolt 1
S copper washer 2
S ball 3
S spring 4
S ball 5
S one-way cam 6
S gasket
S timing chain tensioner rod 7
Damage/wear ! Replace the defective
part(-s).

INSTALLING THE CAMSHAFTS

1. Install:
S exhaust camshaft 1
S intake camshaft 2
(with the camshaft sprockets temporarily
tightened)
NOTE:
Install the camshafts with their punch marks
facing up.
2. Install:
S dowel pins 1
S intake camshaft caps 2
S exhaust camshaft caps 3
NOTE:
Install the camshaft cap with the arrow mark
a pointing towards the right side of the en-
gine.
3. Install:
S camshaft cap bolts
NOTE:
S Tighten the camshaft cap bolts in stages
and in a crisscross pattern, working from
the inner caps out.
S Do not install the designated camshaft cap
bolts 4 at this stage.
