If Trouble Occurs

If an error occurs during faxing or receiving, check the following points.

Sending Documents

You cannot send a fax.
Cause 1
The machine may have overheated.
Remedy
Disconnect the machine, and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Reconnect the machine
and try sending again.
Cause 2
The machine may not be set for the type of telephone line in use (pulse/tone).
Remedy
Make sure the machine is set for the correct telephone line type. (See "Checking and
Setting the Telephone Line Type," on p. 1-10.)
Cause 3
The document may not have been loaded properly.
Remedy
Remove the document, stack it if necessary, and place it on the platen glass or load it
into the ADF correctly. (See Chapter 2, "Document Handling," in the Reference Guide.)

Cause 4
The one-touch speed dialing key or speed dialing code you entered may not be
registered for the feature you want to use.
Remedy
Make sure the one-touch speed dialing key or speed dialing code is registered
correctly. (See Chapter 2, "Speed Dialing.")
Cause 5
You have dialed or have been provided with an incorrect number.
Remedy
Check that you have the correct number and dial the number again.
Cause 6
The other party's fax machine may be out of paper.
Remedy
Call the other party and ask them to make sure that paper is loaded in their fax
machine.
Cause 7
There may be other documents being sent from memory.
Remedy
Allow time for those documents to finish sending.
Cause 8
An error may have occurred during sending.
Remedy
Print an ACTIVITY REPORT and check for an error. (See "Activity Report," on p. 7-3.)
