Receiving Documents

Cannot receive a fax automatically.
Cause 1
The machine may not be set to receive automatically.
Remedy
For the machine to receive faxes automatically, the receive mode must be set to
<FaxTel>, <FaxOnly>, <AnsMode>, or <DRPD>. If you have set <AnsMode>, confirm
that an answering machine is connected to the machine, and that it is turned on with a
properly recorded outgoing message. (See "Setting the Receive Mode," on p. 4-3.)
Cause 2
The machine's memory is full.
Remedy
Print out or delete any documents stored in memory to free up space. (See "Memory
Features," on p. 5-6.)
Cause 3
An error may have occurred during reception.
Remedy
Print an ACTIVITY REPORT and check for an error. (See "Activity Report," on p. 7-3.)
Cause 4
The telephone line may not be connected properly.
Remedy
Make sure that all line connections are secure.
The machine does not switch automatically between telephone and fax reception.
Cause 1
The machine may not be set to switch automatically between telephone and fax
reception.

Remedy
For the machine to switch automatically, the receive mode must be set to <FaxTel>,
<AnsMode>, or <DRPD>. If you have set <AnsMode>, confirm that an answering
machine is connected to the machine and that it is turned on with an outgoing
message properly recorded. (See "Setting the Receive Mode," on p. 4-3.)
Cause 2
In the Manual mode, <MAN/AUTO SWITCH> from the ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
menu may be set to <OFF>.
Remedy
Make sure <MAN/AUTO SWITCH> is set to <ON>. (See "RX Settings," on p. 6-10.)
Cause 3
The sending fax machine cannot send the CNG (Calling Tone) signal that tells the
machine that the incoming signal is a fax.
Remedy
Some fax machines cannot send the CNG (Calling Tone) signal that tells your machine
the incoming call is a fax. In such a case, you have to receive the fax manually. (See
"Receiving Documents Manually," on p. 4-10.)
