Cause 9
The telephone line may not be working properly.
Remedy
Make sure there is a dial tone when you lift the handset of the telephone connected to
the machine. If there is no dial tone, contact your local telephone company.
Cause 10
The receiving fax machine may not be a G3 fax machine.
Remedy
Make sure the receiving fax machine is compatible with your machine (G3 fax
machine).
Cause 11
The other party's telephone may be busy or the other party's fax machine may not be
working properly or may be turned OFF. Or, <BUSY/NO SIGNAL> is shown on the
ERROR TX REPORT.
Remedy 1
Try sending the document at a later time.
Remedy 2
Contact the other party and have them check their fax machine.
Cause 12
The receiving fax machine did not answer within 55 seconds (after all automatic
redialing attempts).
Remedy
Contact the other party and have them check their fax machine. For an overseas
call, add pauses to the registered number. (See "Overseas Dialing (With Pauses) ," on
p. 5-2.)
Faxes sent from the machine are spotted or dirty.
Cause 1
The receiving fax machine may not be working properly.
Remedy
Check the machine by making a copy. If the copy is clear, the problem may be in the
receiving fax machine. If the copy is spotted or dirty, clean the platen glass or the
rollers inside the main unit. (See Chapter 5, "Routine Maintenance," in the Reference
Guide.)
Cause 2
The document may not have been loaded properly.
Remedy
Remove the document, stack it if necessary, and place it on the platen glass or load it
into the ADF correctly. (See Chapter 2, "Document Handling," in the Reference Guide.)
Cannot send using the Error Correction Mode (ECM).
Cause 1
The other party's fax machine may not support ECM.
Remedy
If the other party's fax machine does not support ECM, then the document is sent in
the normal mode without error checking.
Cause 2
ECM may be disabled.
Remedy
Make sure ECM is on. (See "TX Settings," on p. 6-9.)
Errors occur frequently while sending.
Cause
The telephone lines may be in poor condition, or you may have a bad connection.
Remedy
Select a slower the transmission speed. (See "User Settings," on p. 6-6.)
