Air Cleaner and Air Intake System
This engine is equipped with heavy-duty air cleaner, low-profi le air cleaner, or special air cleaner supplied by the
equipment manufacturer.
Heavy-Duty Air Cleaner
General
The heavy-duty air cleaner consists of a cylindrical housing, typically mounted to a bracket off the upper valve
cover screws, and mounted to the thrott le body/intake manifold. The air cleaner housing contains a paper
element and inner element, designed for longer service intervals. The system is CARB/EPA certifi ed and the
components should not be altered or modifi ed in any way.

Service
Weekly and every 150 hours: Check fi lter minder (if
equipped), perform inspection of the paper element,
and inlet screen area. See Figure 4.2.
Yearly or every 300 hours of operation (more oft en
under extremely dusty or dirty conditions), replace
the paper element and check the inner element.
1. Unhook the two retaining clips (A) on each end
and remove the end caps (E) from the air cleaner
housing (D). See Figures 4-1 and 4-2.
2. Check and clean the inlet screen (G).
3. Pull the elements out of the housing on the
opposite side. See Figure 4-2. Aft er the outer
element (B) is removed, check the condition
of the inner element (C). It should be replaced
whenever it appears dirty, typically every other
time the main element is replaced, or every 600
hours. Clean the area around the base of the
inner element (C) before removing it, so dirt does
not get into the engine.
