VLAN increases network performance by limiting broadcasts to a smaller and more manageable logical
broadcast domain. With VLAN, all broadcasts are confined to a specific broadcast domain.

25.5 Introduction to Port-based VLANs

Port-based VLANs are VLANs where the packet forwarding decision is based on its associated port. If you
wish to allow the ports to communicate, you must enable VLAN for the two ports.
Port-based VLANs are specific only to the device on which they were created.
You can configure which ports can communicate with each other using VLAN. Without VLAN, all switch
ports can communicate with each other.

25.6 Port Based VLAN Setup

To setup port-based VLAN, enter 3 from the main menu to display Menu 3 — LAN Setup. When menu 3
appears, press 6 and press [ENTER] to display Menu 3.6 — Port Based VLAN Setup, as shown next
Press [SPACE BAR] to select Yes and press [ENTER] to allow the port in the top row to communicate with
the corresponding port on the left. Otherwise, press [SPACE BAR] to select to No and press [ENTER] to
block communications between two ports.
In the above screen example (Figure 26-4), port 1 is the DMZ port and cannot communicate with ports 2, 3
or 4. Port 2 can communicate with port 3 only. Port 4 can communicate with port 3 only. But port 3 can
communicate with both port 2 and port 4. Port 2 and port 4 are in different VLANs and cannot communicate
with one another.
