MIDI and Recording

The GNX4 features MIDI In and Out jacks which serve several purposes:
1. MIDI In can be used for remote control of the GNX4 from external MIDI devices such as MIDI
sequencers and MIDI controller pedals (GNX4 receives program changes, CC parameter control).
2. MIDI In can be used for receiving Sysex preset and bulk dumps into the GNX4
3.The GNX4's Drum Machine responds to MIDI note events received on MIDI Channel 10.
4. MIDI In can be used as your MIDI interface to the computer allowing recording of MIDI events to Pro
Tracks Plus
or other MIDI recording software applications via USB.
NOTE: There is no recording of MIDI to the Compact Flash card.
5. MIDI Out can be used for Sysex preset and bulk dumps to another GNX4 or a MIDI data recording
device.
6. MIDI Out can be used as the MIDI out of your computer recording and sequencer application for
controlling external MIDI devices such as keyboards or sound modules.
Whenever a MIDI device (sequencer, keyboard, etc..) is plugged into the GNX4's MIDI In and is transmitting
MIDI data, this data is automatically being sent to the computer via the GNX4's USB port. Any sequencer or
recording application that records MIDI data can record these messages. See the application's manual or help
files for more information on recording MIDI.

Working with Songs and Loops

A Song and a Loop are a group of recorded tracks. You must have a Compact Flash memory card installed in
the GNX4 to work with songs and loops using the GNX4's recorder.

Selecting Songs and Loops

To select songs, follow these steps:
1. Press the STOP button (if the recorder isn't already stopped).
2. Use the FFWD or REWIND buttons to select the next or previous song. The GNX4's main display
shows
and the number in the SONG display changes as the new song is selected. The TIME
display shows the selected song's length.
NOTE: You can also use the DOWN and UP Footswitches to select songs when Recorder
mode is active.

Deleting Songs and Loops

To delete songs from the Compact Flash card, follow these steps:
1. Select the song you want to delete by quickly pressing the FFWD or REWIND button until the song
number you wish to delete appears in the Song display.
2. Press and hold the UNDO button until the GNX4's main display reads
3. Press the UNDO button again within 3 seconds to delete the song. The display reads
returns to the preset screen when deletion is complete. If the UNDO button is not pressed again
within 3 seconds of the first press, the recorder ignores the undo request and recording continues
unaffected.
