Troubleshooting SNMP Request Timeouts

The following table includes most common causes of SNMP request timeouts.
Symptom
Community name is not valid.
SNMP Manager is not authorized. Use the Network Configuration application
Timeout setting for SNMP
Manager is too short.
6700 NMS is not running.

Solution
Use the Network Configuration application
SNMP/Community Names menu item to
determine the valid community names.
SNMP/Community Names menu item to add a
manager or change its access.
Allow at least 30 seconds (recommended
minimum). For tributary or tail circuit access,
60 seconds may be required.
Check the PC to ensure that the 6700 NMS is up
and running. For additional troubleshooting, refer
to the COMSPHERE 6700 Series Network
