crease the risk of serious injury and death
when an airbag deploys and strikes an occu-
pant who is not in the correct seating posi -

How safety belt pretensioners work
In front, side and rear-end collisions above a
particular severity, safety belts are tensioned
automatically.
The safety belts are equipped with safety belt
pretensioners . The system is act ivated by se n-
sors in fro nt, side and rear -end collisions of
great seve rity. This tightens the belt and takes
up belt slack ¢
