- A worn or damaged nozzle or a nozz le that
is too small may not be ab le to open the
diesel misfueling protector. If this is the
case, try turning the no zzle before inserting
it in the fuel fi ller neck, use a different fue l
pump or see an authorized Audi dea ler or
authorized Audi Serv ice Facility for ass is-
tance .

Working in the engine compartment
Special care is required if you are working in th e
engine compartment
For work in the engine compa rtmen t, such as
checking and filling fluid s, ther e is a risk of in-
jur y, scalding, accident s, and burns. For this
reason, f ollow all the foll owing li sted warning s
and general safety precaution s. The engi ne
compart ment is a dangerous area.

WARNING
- Turn the engine off.
- Switch the ignition off .
- Set the parking brake.
- Select the P selector lever pos ition .
- Let the engine coo l down.
- Never open the engine compa rtment lid
when you see that steam or coolant drips
from the eng ine compartment-
t here is a
danger of burns! Wait unti l no steam or
coolant flows out .
- Keep children away from the engine com-
partment.
- Never spill flu ids on a hot engine. These flu-
ids (such as the freeze protection contained
in the coolant) can catch fire.
- Avoid sho rt circu its in the e lectrical system,
especially the battery .
- When working in the engine compartment ,
remember that the radiator fan can sw itch
on even if the ign ition is switched off, which
increases the risk of personal injury .
- Never open the cap on the coolant expan-
sion tank when the engine is warm . The
cooling system is under pressure.
Ch e c k ing an d Filling
- To protect your face, hands, and arms from
hot steam or coolant, cover the cap with a
large cloth when opening.
- Do not remove the engine cover under any
circumstances. This increases the risk of
burns.
- If tests need to be performed with the en-
g ine running, there is add it ional danger due
to moving components (such as the ribbed
belt, alternator and radiator fan) and from
the high voltage ignition system .
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver -
tently if a gear is selected when the vehicle
is stationary and the engine is running. Oth-
erwise the vehicle will start to move imme-
d iate ly and could result in a crash .
- Pay attent ion to the following warnings list-
ed when work on the fue l system or on the
elec t rical equipmen t is required.
- Always disconnect the vehicle battery
from the vehicle electrical system.
- Do not smoke.
- Never work near open flames.

Always have a working fi re extinguisher
nearby
- To reduce the risk of electric shock and in-
jury, never touch the following components
when the engine is running or is being start-
ed :
- Ign it ion cable
- Other components in the e lectronic high
voltage ign ition system
- If you must check or perform work on the
engine wh ile it is running:
- Set the parking brake first and se lect the P
(Park) selector lever position.
- Always proceed w ith extreme caution so
that clothing, jewelry or long hair do not
become caught in the radiator fan, fan
belt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo-
nents. Tie back long hair before beginning
work and do not wear clothing that can
hang down into the engine .
- Limit your exposure to exhaust and chemi-
cals to as short a time as possible
