c. INSPECTION
• BRUSH LENGTH
Measure the brush length.

brush length is less than standard, replace the bursh and brush
spring.
STANDARD
SERVICE LIMIT
9 mm (0.35 in)

• OVERRUNNING CLUTCH
1) Check the overruning cluth for smooth axial movement. Apply
oil or replace the overruning clutch
if
necessary.
2) Check reduction gear movement by holding the pinion gear and
turning the reduc.tion gear. The reduction gear should turn
counterclockwise freely and should not turn clockwise.
3) Check the pinion gear for wear or damage and replace if
necessary.
NOTE:
• If the pinion gear is worn or damaged, the flywheel ring gear
must be inspectd.
• STARTER SWITCH
There should be continuity with the starter switch button pushed
and no continuity with the starter switch button released.
Replace the starter switch
if
necessary.
