3.4.2 Initial packaging
Kohler Co. diesel engines are usually delivered in one of these three packagings:
– Standard freight packaging suitable for B transportation, B storage, and midterm duration
– Marine freight packaging suitable for C transportation, B storage, and long-term duration
– Multimodal freight packaging suitable for C transportation, B storage, and long-term dura‐
tion
Information
We recommend keeping the diesel engine in its original packaging as long as possible.
We recommend unpacking the diesel engine only when everything is ready for its integration in
the application or its represervation.
Standard freight packaging
This packaging allows diesel engine transportation by road or train (B category transportation).
We prepare the drained diesel engine by adding anti-corrosive products in the coolant and
lubricating oil systems. We spray protective products on unpainted surfaces and place some
desiccant bags at the required spots. We then lay the diesel engine on a wooden pallet and
wrap it in foils impregnated with volatil corrosion inhibitor (VCI) then protective stretchable film.
This packaging allows storage up to 12 months in an air-conditioned storehouse (B category
storage).
