Consumables and equipment
Make sure that the following consumables and equipment are available:
– Containers
– Rags
Bleeding the systems
Servicing an operating fluid system (engine oil, coolant, or fuel) may lead to air entrapment into
the system. Trapped air may lead to failed start or poor running conditions.
Bleeding the engine oil system
NOTICE
Prelubricating pump overload!
Property damage - Risk of minor engine failure.
u Observe the prelubricating pump limitations: 5 minutes ON / 30 minutes OFF.
If the engine is equipped with a prelubricating pump:
u Operate prelubricating pump until pressure build-up.
If the engine is not equipped with a prelubricating oil pump:
u Crank the engine without ignition until the engine oil pressure builds up.
Information
Make sure that the engine does not start.

Bleeding the cooling system.
u Open bleeding connections and the cap on the expansion tank.
u Bleed the system until it is bubble-free.
u Close bleeding connections and the cap on the expansion tank.
Information
Depending on the quantity of coolant removed, bleeding the cooling system may require to
start and operate the engine until the coolant temperature is above 60 °C (140 °F).

Bleeding the fuel system
If the engine fails to start on the first attempt:
u Crank the engine without ignition to complete the automated bleeding through the fuel
return line.
u Start the engine.
w After an initial start, we consider that the fuel line has been bled.

Final check
u Make sure that all caps and open connections are closed.
u Check visually for leaks in engine oil, fuel, or cooling systems.
