The rear axle steering acts to increase maneu-
verability at low speeds by turning the rear
wheels slightly in the opposite direction to the
front wheels.
At higher speeds, the rear wheels are turned
in the same direction as the front wheels. For
instance, this results in a harmonious lane
change.
In critical driving situations, integral active
steering can stabilize the vehicle by automat-
ically steering the rear wheels, for example e.g.
when oversteering.
Setting
The system offers several different settings.
With the driving modes of the My Modes, the
system can be set to comfortable or dynamic.
Additional information:
My Modes, refer to page 126.
Using snow chains
In order to guarantee free movement of the
wheels when operating with snow chains, rear
axle steering must be turned off when snow
chains are mounted.
Additional information:
Rear axle steering during operation with snow
chains, refer to page 327.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed.
Steering system may be faulty.
In the event of a malfunction, the steering
movements must be turned further at lower
speeds. The response of the vehicle is more
sensitive in higher speed ranges.
There is no longer support of the Integral Ac-
tive Steering in critical driving situations.
Proceed cautiously and drive defensively.
