Driving stability control systems

Vehicle features and options
This chapter describes model-specific equip-
ment, systems, and functions that are currently
available, or may become available in the fu-
ture, even if they are not present in your vehi-
cle.
Additional information:
Vehicle equipment, refer to page 8.
Antilock Braking System
Principle
The Antilock Braking System prevents locking
of the wheels during braking.
The vehicle maintains its steerability even dur-
ing emergency braking, which increases the
active driving safety.
General information
The Antilock Braking System is ready after
each time drive readiness is turned on.
Brake assistant
The brake assistant automatically applies
maximum braking assistance when the brake
pedal is depressed quickly. It reduces the brak-
ing distance to a minimum during emergency
braking. The advantages of the Antilock Brak-
ing System are thereby utilized.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
during full braking.

Adaptive brake assistant
The Adaptive Brake Assist, together with
Cruise Control with Distance Control, ensures
that the brake responds even faster when
braking in critical situations.
Dynamic Stability Control
Principle
Dynamic Stability Control helps to keep the
vehicle on a steady course by reducing drive
power and by brake interventions on individual
wheels.
General information
The system detects the following unstable
driving conditions, for instance:
Skidding, which can lead to oversteering.
Loss of adhesion of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.
Safety information
Warning
The system cannot serve as a substitute for
the driver's personal judgment in assessing
the traffic situation. Based on the limits of
the system, it cannot independently react
to all traffic situations. There is a risk of
accident. Adjust driving style to traffic condi-
tions. Watch the surrounding traffic situation
closely, be ready to take over steering and
braking at any time, and actively intervene
where appropriate.
