STEERING / SUSPENSION
LOWER STEERING SHAFT INSTALLATION
(EPS)
CAUTION
Striking the steering wheel or steering shaft while
installed in the vehicle can permanently damage the
EPS unit and cause a power steering fault.
1. Verify the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Loosely install the lower steering shaft back onto the
EPS unit and steering rack using new lock nuts.
Verify the paint pen marks made during disassembly
align with the shaft and steering rack. Verify the shaft
aligns with the EPS unit output shaft skip-tooth.
3. Reinstall the four steering rack mounting bolts and
nuts. Torque fasteners to specification.
TORQUE
Steering Rack Mounting Fasteners:
16 ft-lbs (22 Nm)
8.10
4. Torque the lower steering shaft to steering rack pinch
bolt to specification.
TORQUE
Lower Steering Shaft Pinch Bolt:
36 ft-lbs (49 Nm)
5. Torque the lower steering shaft to EPS unit output
shaft pinch bolt to specification.
TORQUE
Lower Steering Shaft to EPS Pinch Bolt:
15 ft-lbs (20 Nm)
6. Reinstall the winch cover panel.
