Step 5: Connecting External Devices and PIC Cables

Connecting to a Console or Auxiliary Device

To connect external devices and PIC cables, perform the following procedures:

To use a system console to configure and manage the Routing Engine, connect it to the
appropriate
CONSOLE
port on the CIP. To use a laptop, modem, or other auxiliary device,
connect it to the appropriate
(EIA-232) serial cable with a DB-9 female connector. One DB-9/DB-9 cable is provided
with the router. To connect a device to the
port, you must supply another cable.
AUXILIARY
To connect a management console or auxiliary device:
Turn off the power to the console or auxiliary device.
