NOTICE:
Under no circumstances should
a starting aid such as ether be
used to run the engine until the
fuel system is primed. Injector
damage will result if this method
is used.
If an external starting aid is used, the
heat generated by the external fuel
source will cause the injector tips to
be damaged when the fuel cools them.
The injector plunger and bushing
can be scored from running without
lubrication.
NOTICE:
Engines equipped with starting
devices dependent on compressed
air or gas reservoirs should always
be primed before initial startup.
Otherwise, reserve pressure can
be exhausted and injectors may be
damaged from lack of lubrication
and cooling.
To insure prompt starting and even
running, the fuel system must be
primed if air has entered the fuel
system. Priming can be performed by
using the priming pump on the fuel
filter or by connecting a manual or
electric priming pump to the fuel filter
housing.
