Question
The computer does
not resume.
The drive power
remains off when the
computer is started
up.
The computer
does not power off
(Windows does not
shut down).
In the following cases, power on the computer by sliding the power switch.
In this case, all unsaved data will be lost.
When the AC adaptor and the battery pack was removed in sleep.
When you reattach the peripherals to the computer after removing them.
When you turn the computer off by sliding the power switch for four seconds
or longer.
Connect the AC adaptor and resume the computer.
The remaining battery power may be low or the battery may discharge
completely.
In the Setup Utility, [Optical Drive Power] is set to [Off].
Set [Optical Drive Power] to [On]. To set the power always on when the computer
is started up, .set [Optical Drive Power] to [On].
The sounds from the CD/DVD drive can be heard immediately after the CD/DVD
drive is turned on if [Optical Drive Power] is set to [On] on the Setup Utility.
If a peripheral is connected, disconnect it, and then shut down.
If it is possible to shut down when the peripheral is disconnected, then there may
be a problem with the peripheral. Consult the peripheral manufacturer.
If it is no longer possible to shut down Windows after installing software
application, remove the software application using the following procedure.
1 Click
(Start) - [Control Panel] - [Uninstall a program].
2 Remove the software application.
If it is possible to shut down when the software application is removed, then
consult the software application manufacturer.
Check a disk error using the following procedure:
1 Remove all peripheral devices (including an external display).
2 Click
(Start) - [Computer], right-click [Local Disk (C:)] and click
[Properties].
3 Click [Tools] - [Check now].
If [User Account Control] is displayed, click [Yes].
A standard user needs to enter an administrator password.
4 In [Check disk options], add a check mark for [Automatically fix file system
errors] and [Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors], and click [Start].
5 At the confirmation message, click [Schedule disk check].
6 Restart the computer.
If the disk check does not solve the problem, perform the reinstallation procedure
and return the hard disk to its condition in the default setting. (  page 81)
