Battery Problems and Solutions
Problem
Battery charge
indicator blinks for
low-battery
condition, but
computer didn't
beep.
Battery charge
indicator doesn't
turn on.
Battery pack won't
fast charge.
Every time the
computer is
turned on, I have
to set the date
and time.

Possible Cause
Low-battery beeps are
turned off.
Speaker volume is
turned down.
Battery packs are
already charged.
Battery packs were ex-
posed to temperature
extremes.
Battery packs are at the
end of their life.
Battery packs are
already fully charged.
Real-time clock battery
is at the end of its life.
Solution
Click the Battery
Conservation tab on the
Power icon in the
Control Panel and
enable low-battery
warning beeps.
Press Fn+F5 (using
arrow keys) to increase
speaker volume.
No action is necessary.
Allow time for the battery
pack(s) to return to room
temperature.
Replace the battery
pack(s).
Use the battery pack(s)
without attempting to
fast charge.
Call your Compaq
authorized service
provider to replace the
real-time clock battery.
