Modem Problems
Messages about modem operation.
Parallel, Serial,and USB Device Problems
You have installed a parallel-p ort device,a serial-
port device or a USB device. Your notebook does
not recognize the device, or the device does not
seem to work properly.
T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g
Possible Cause
2. You have a memory failure.
1. Messages about modem operation are
generated by whichever modem application
is in use.

2. Make sure display of error messages is
enabled (see Boot Options Submenu on
pages 89–90), and check for Power On Self
Test (POST) messages. (See pages 146–148
for possible messages and their meanings.)
