Here are the steps I would take:
Get DVI working at 640x480. Make sure DVI is the only connection to the TV and make
sure that it is the primary display (display properties in Windows).
Start up PowerStrip.
1. Click on the PowerStrip icon in the task bar and select Display Profiles/Configure. A
configuration window should pop up.
2. Make sure "Hide modes not supported by monitor" is NOT checked.
3. Click on Advanced timing options.
4. Click on Custom resolutions button.
5. Scroll down to 1280x720p (HDTV Standard) and select it.
6. Click Add new resolution - at this point PowerStrip may require you to reboot. If it
does, do so and get back to the configuration window by selecting Display
Profiles/Configure from the PowerStrip menu.
7. Select 1280x720 on the resolution slider bar and click Apply.
Hopefully the screen will go blank and then reappear filling the whole screen. This is a
good first resolution to try. If it comes back at the same 640x480 resolution, then you are
going to need to try some different timings. This is where burble's numbers come in
handy. Follow the above steps until you get to step 7. At that step, select the closest
resolution from the left list. Now start entering burble's settings on the right side, use the
"Generic timing details for 1184x666" line. His abbrevia tions are:
