  • Page 22 Go Back To Categories (1) Is a factory service manual available? If so, where/how much? You can order/buy the Service Manual for the KF-50XBR800/KF-60XBR800 for $29 + tax + $3.50 s&h from Sony (877) 865-SONY (7669) (2) How is the Service Menu arranged? Category…………..Item No.
  • Page 23 UMR’s Tweak Settings Go Back To Categories (1) How should I start? First hook up a DVD with a test disk and calibrate the Picture, Brightness, Color, Hue and Sharpness in the user menu under PRO mode. (2) How do I change UPOG and UBOG? Make the change, save the changes, and cycle through the modes.
  • Page 24 (9) Would and inline amp. from Radio Shack also help, hurt, or do nothing? I removed my Radio Shack in- line amp with this set and it did not seem to hurt. It might help, hurt or do nothing if you add one. I thought mine was in the hurt category. (10) I have read that many on this thread have improvements on SDTV and Tivo inputs.
  • Page 25 2170P-2 (custom values) - adjust each input to the desired appearance under PRO mode with these values. *-only for first (DVD) input. Use these values for all other inputs. (12) I have my HD TWC NYC going into input 5. My DVD is going into 6. Should I just make them match your DVI settings? Maybe.
  • Page 26 Calibrating picture and brightness correctly will display all black details (levels), but the blackest black is going to stay the same. (19) I've tried calibrating the black levels using Avia on my Sony DVP-F11 player using S-Video (the Panny RP-82 is on back order). I've already applied the GAMMA/BLK tweak in the service menu.
  • Page 27 went back to defaults. The color decoder is easier to set if you lower the picture level to about 25 to 50%. The sharpness will not effect color/hue. The picture can if you push it too far and one of the panels saturates before the others. (26) I am still unclear as to how set dependant these changes are.
  • Page 28 (31) how come you use the warm setting? I found everything very reddish in that setting..? Sony typically sets warm as the setting that will most closely match 6500k. I would agree that it is not correct with the factory settings. That is why I adjusted the CUT and DRV values.
  • Page 29 (33) In the instructions, there is a table with your values, as well as detailed instructions on how to tweak the values for your own set using Avia test patterns. The table displays a value for item RDRV (Red Gain), but the instructions never address RDRV.
  • Page 30 (I thought the KF-60DX100 did this)? Not that I know of. (4) Would a DVDO iScan Line Doubler help on all inputs into sony GW2 50xbr other than HDTV component that looks fine. Would the DVDO help clean up...
  • Page 31 I would practice the sequence to enter the service menu in another room before I tried this though. (8) Does tweaking the GWII void the Sony warranty on the set. Is there any truth to this? I have found the following statements related to user maintenance or modification of TV that might affect or void the warranty.
  • Page 32 MPEG decompression artifacts, S/N ratio and chroma delay. (10) why doesn't Sony ship the set tweaked if it makes such difference? I'm sure it would help move a lot more product off the showroom floor (default Vivid mode is horrible)? Don't know, maybe marketing.
  • Page 33 feed my TV a progressive signal, as I have only an Int erlaced DVD player and no HDTV. Also, the MILD Picture Mode disables Advanced Video. (12) Just purchased what I believe is the European Version of the 50XBR800 (50SX200) and would like to know if the same tweaks will work? Maybe. (13) In 4:3 mode the vertical sides of the picture.
  • Page 34 (18) How to use AVIA Disk? Here is a map of how I use it. The "-" marks indicate how many levels deep inside of the menu you are. The "====" marks an actual test pattern and what it is used for. The "?"...
  • Page 35 Good anti-reflection coating helps with bright rooms as well. Physical size of TV compared to other RPTVs. No convergence required. Sony offers discrete remote codes (on, off, Video 1, Video2 ...). Set will automatically detect anamorphic wide-screen material and scale the screen appropriately.

  • Page 37 PC Connection Go Back To Categories (1) What is the native resolution of this set? What conversion does it do with 480i, 480P, 720P and 1080i signals? If you can select the format with your STB what is optimum? The native resolution is 1366x768. Being a fixed pixel display everything will ultimately be converted to that resolution.
  • Page 38 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i to 768p. (5) How to use Sony LCD Wega for PC?? You have several options. The easiest, of course, is to just buy a video card with a DVI output.
  • Page 39 (6) So is not being in Native resolution a bad thing? Using native resolution would bypass the television's internal scaler - you get a 1:1 mapping between the pixels sent out from the computer and what is shown on the screen. Theoretically this would yield a better picture since the TV scaler is either going to have to interpolate (expand) or reduce the picture based on the PC resolution to match its native pixel size.

  • Page 43 BTW, I don't think the monitor driver matters much besides the fact that it's a non Plug and Play monitor. I chose the Sony PCVD-A202 and it seems to be working ok for me. Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm using a Radeon 7500 to connect to my GWII 50" via a single- link DVI-D cable.
